Views

It is the second largest city in the Czech Republic. The Špilberk royal castle (17th c.) and the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul (14th c.) are the city's principal monuments.

It is the third largest city in the Czech Republic and at the meeting point of four rivers: the Odra, Opava, Ostravice and Lučina. It was a coal-mining and metallurgical centre.

It is a middle-sized town in the South Bohemian Region and its name means 'sand'. It is of prehistorical origin, but a large part of its city core was built in the 19th century: there are many buildings built in classical or neo-styles around tree-lined boulevards.
