It is the capital and the largest city (1.74 million inhabitants in 2011) of Hungary. Its history began with Aquincum, originally a Celtic settlement that became the Roman capital of Lower Pannonia. The main sights are: the neo-Gothic Parliament, Saint Stephen's Basilica, the Roman remains at the Aquincum Museum. The Castle Hill, the River Danube embankments and the whole of Andrássy út have been officially recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The city is famous for the thermal springs.

Located on the slopes of the Mecsek mountains, it is the fifth largest city of Hungary. The Cathedral (XI century) is a beautiful religious building.
