San Fruttuoso abbey
It is an abbey and the seat of the Catholic parish nestling in a little creek and protected by a 16th-century tower. The very inaccessibility of the site and the presence of a source of fresh water rendered it, in the 8th century, an ideal location for the foundation of a church.

It is a rugged portion of coast with five villages (Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore), miles of rocky coast among two promontories and thousands of kilometres of dry-laid stone walls. They are listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Municipality of the Golfo of Tigullio, it is famous for being the headquarter of two peace treaties: at the end of the first World War between the Kingdom of Italy and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (1920) and between the Weimar Republic and the Soviet Union (1922).
