It is the homeland of St. Francis, the man who renounced all his possessions in order to devote his life to helping the needy. UNESCO collectively designated the Franciscan structures of Assisi as a World Heritage Site.

CITTA' DI CASTELLO

Views

It is situated on a slope of the Apennines, on the flood plain along the upper part of the river Tiber. It was founded by the ancient Umbri and Gallic tribes. The city is mostly built of brick.

GUBBIO

Views

It is one of the oldest cities in Umbria. It is located at different heights on one side of Mount Ingino and is crossed by marvelous medieval streets. The cathedral, Palazzo dei Consoli (symbol of the city) and Palazzo Ducale make this city a real jewel.

It is a city with significant cultural heritage. It has ancient origins, it was the important Etruscan city and a powerful medieval Comune. Linked to the medieval period are some important city monuments such as the Duomo, Palazzo del Popolo, St. Patrick’s Well and beautiful noble palaces.

PERUGIA

Palazzo dei Priori

It is a majestic architectural expression of the Italian medieval civilization. It is characterized by the sequence of three-light windows and by the Gothic portal that leads into the Sala dei Notari.

TERNI

Marmore Falls

It is a man-made waterfall created by the ancient Romans. Its total height is 165 m, making it the tallest man-made waterfall in the world. The waterfall is formed by the Velino river, which flows into the Nera river. The name Marmore derives from the peculiar calcium carbonate salts that settle on the rocks of the mountain, whose reflection of the sunlight makes them resemble crystals of white marble.

It was a flourishing center since 12th century, when it became an independent comune and many of its outstanding monuments were built. One of its most famous citizens was Jocopone da Todi: an Italian Franciscan friar, who lived in the 13th century. He wrote several laude (songs in praise of the Lord) in the local vernacular. He was an early pioneer in Italian theatre and language.
